This unique 5K (3.1 mile) Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run is focused less on speed and more on positively impacting our community with friends & family to raise awareness of two charitable causes! Community members of all different ages, shapes, sizes, and speeds are welcome! All proceeds from this event will be split evenly between the Danielle Stoaks family and the YMCA Annual Campaign.
Danielle’s Journey with Breast Cancer
Danielle lives her life around the Ys focus of healthy living. She is not only an admirable single mother of two boys, ages 8 and 10, but also a co-worker and friend. Danielle is a personal trainer and group exercise instructor at the Massillon Family YMCA.
Her journey with wellness began in 2010 after her second son was born. Setting high goals to lose weight and change her diet, Danielle not only made a lifestyle change, but went on to run 5K’s and then compete in figure competitions.
In February 2018, at age 33, she was faced with new challenges when receiving the diagnosis of Stage III breast cancer, also which has spread to several lymph nodes. Now, every 21 days, Danielle undergoes all-day intravenous chemotherapy treatments. She is an inspiration to everyone when she arrives back to the Y to teach classes after recovering for only one week after treatments. Surgery with possible radiation and hormonal therapy is anticipated after she completes chemo.
Danielle’s positive attitude and determination has her setting new goals. She is participating in the Great Cycle Challenge USA to ride 500 miles in the month of June, raising money for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
She praises her parents for their support and refers to this bible verse for inspiration.
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ISAIAH 41:10
